Sloan Insurance Agency, Inc. established in 1950 in Washington, NC by founder Lloyd P. Sloan, Jr., is proud and privileged to have long served Washington, Beaufort County and the Northeastern North Carolina region. The Sloan family business is looking forward to continuing their practice of offering tailored coverage for their clients' personal and business insurance needs.

After serving his country in World War II,  Lloyd P. Sloan, Jr. who was born and raised in Charlotte, NC entered Louisburg College where he met the former Marion Ruth Hodges from Washington.  Lloyd continued his education  at East Carolina Teachers College obtaining a degree in accounting.  After Lloyd graduated from East Carolina, he and Marion married and made Washington, NC their home.  Lloyd's first entry into the world of business was by following his degree as a bookkeeper for the Talley Brothers'  Farm Supply companies here in Washington. After this stint at Talley Brothers, Lloyd made the decision to enter into the world of insurance.  Sloan Insurance was conceived and opened for business in September of 1950, servicing local  property and casualty needs with an emphasis on the needs of the local farming community. 

Since that time Sloan Insurance Agency has prospered and is now owned and operated by the second generation of the Sloan family.  The business began as a success, and is continued to this day, with Lloyd and Marion's sons, Mike and Lewis Sloan guiding the ship that Lloyd and Marion, as bookkeeper,  so carefully crafted. So dedicated to the vision of establishing a family business, Lloyd even invited his mother, Myrtle Sloan who worked in the operation of the business from 1955 to 1985.  Sloan Insurance Agency began by representing Iowa Mutual Insurance Company back in 1950; today in 2025, Sloan Insurance represents many companies.

As Sloan Insurance Agency sails into its 75th year of existence, Lewis and Mike Sloan are as committed as their legacy demands of them:  To offer insurance protection for the community and to tailor and service our available products to the extent that they are professionally capable.  As Mike and Lewis say: "We offer insurance products and service for many  of the financial perils our clients face today as our agency has for the entire 75 years of our existence here in Beaufort County."
